Hello Everyone,
Throughout this semester I have had the chance to work with most if not all of you. May I just say it has been an absolute pleasure working with you all. I have had my beliefs questioned and debated which I believe is the best possible way to learn in a class. Discussing a range of topics, in a respectful manor has been very beneficial for me. The class was a very safe and inviting environment that made me want to participate more. Thank you all for sharing your ideas with me and giving a spark to my passionate debate style of learning that I love so much. It has been an honor to be in this class and I hope to see all of you in future class here at Gonzaga. Sincerely, Robert Horsfield Ryan McEvoy
Reed English Composition 4 May 2016 Blog Post 12: Letter Classmates, Throughout this semesters class there has been several opportunities to work with and around all of you in class. I think one of the most important things to do for personal intellectual growth is to expose one’s self to as many thoughts and ideas as possible. This class has been a great setting for this growth. Moving from group discussions to personal writing time and collaboration necessary in projects, such as that for the forum. Everyone I have interacted with has provided new points of view and different ideas to expand with my own. Class discussions have always been lively with people constantly bringing new and passionate ideas. It is far easier to be invested and engaged within conversations when people are bringing enthusiasm. Thank you for that. My forum group was an environment in which I learned a lot. Working with an upper classmen taught me a lot about work process and the level of focus needed within projects to produce positive material. Along with this, I found the most enlightening moments came from the discussion days post forum presentation. Listening and throwing around ideas on relevant and related issue provides a real world application to this new knowledge. Those discussions caused me to think about these issues in several new ways. I especially learned the most about my work from the feedback provided by Kate, who has been extremely receptive making it far easier to improve and want to understand my writing. Thank you for the time you have put in. I will be leaving this class with a new understanding on work procedures and expectations, as well as several novel viewpoints to continue to develop the way I look at English and world around me. - Ryan McEvoy This semester I have seen my writing and research abilities improve immensely. Much of this is thanks to you all, through the in class experiences and peer reviews. You have all helped to spark an interest and help me find out what works best for me. Before this class I would do research and write pieces to fit the required criteria, now I find myself taking a vested interest in the subject matter and making the piece into something I can be proud of.
I have enjoyed the many spontaneous and heated discussions we have had in our class. The spontaneity is what really makes our class special in my opinion. It feels like just about every class we managed to find something to laugh about. The easy going attitude that was apparent in the classroom was great and something I wish I could experience in every class. Thank You All for the memories and experiences, Brad Barrett The first thing I would like to address in this letter to the class is how much I enjoyed the group dynamic of the class. I was a great time being able to bond with new people and get to see sides of people that I would not have been able to see otherwise.
What is most fresh in my mind about group work was the presentation. Through this group work I was able to find new ways of organizing my ideas and find new ways to work in different group dynamics. I appreciate everyone in this class and their openness to talk in any situation. I found that this constant group work made me more open to talking aloud to the whole class instead of keeping ideas to myself instead of potential fueling the conversation and keeping it going. Thank you so much English comp group and appreciate all the hard work you all have done. -Evan Watson Dear Classmates,
I would like to start off by saying what a wonderful experience this class has been for me. You all were such a great group of people and I enjoyed getting to know you guys personally, as well as writers. I also enjoyed the class conversations where I learned so much through our discussions. Class discussions were always interesting because I was able to hear different views on subjects and catch a new perspective that I personally did not have about a subject. This in itself helped me to understand writing more because everyone has their own perspective and it is enlightening to see how other people think and work so that I can adopt some of their habits. As far as research goes the forum group was a great experience for me because I personally try to stay away from group work because I like to work at my own pace and don’t like to rely on others to get things done. But on the other hand I also don’t want to be responsible for someone else’s grades. Working in a group kept me accountable as wells as made me trust the members within my group which truly helped me develop my ideas and research about our topic. I also was able to gain perspective through others research and their approach to research. This further increased my understanding of topics that I might not understand if it was not for a groupmates research. Lastly I want to talk about how peer evaluation has developed me as a writer. Whenever I had a one of you revise my un-essay or paper I always received great feedback that helped me improve my work. I was able to learn through your suggestions and gained more insight on how I could revise my own work. I was so glad to have a class that was so interested in the success of each other’s work and the willingness to give support. I wish every English class could have been for me how this English class was this semester. I hope you all have a wonderful summer! Sebastian Ferraro. Dear Classmates,
Thank you for an awesome semester. It has been one of the best English class experiences in my life. I had this class right after Organic Chemistry which just drained me mentally. Then I walked up one flight of stairs to a class that challenged me in other ways. Instead of taking notes for fifty minutes, there were discussions and activities that made me think about writing and education in a new light. I learned so much not only from Kate, but from you guys as well. You guys offered many different perspectives that made me think about new things in different ways. Everyone was not afraid to offer their opinions, and they were able to defend it. I have never truly experienced that dynamic in a class before. Thank you guys for everything. -Ali Pinkley Nathan Ariza
