Dear Class,
Thank you for an amazing first semester of college. By working with all of you I have become more open to the view that others hold much different perspectives in life than I do and have had very different experiences than I have had or will have. I thank you all for helping me with that because I know it will help my writing in the future by allowing me to take more time to think of what other people may think about the topic and try to look at the topic from different angles than I would have come up with on my own. I enjoyed hearing what everyone did their second unessay on, I thought some of the topics chosen were very interesting and things I had not really known about much before hearing a quick preview of. To my forum group, I enjoyed working with you guys a ton and I hope that I'll get the opportunities to work with you guys in future classes. You all brought something unique to the group, that statement is also applicable to the class as a whole but those in my forum group I got to spend more time with outside of class. I enjoyed seeing the different ways people in the class thought through class discussions. Hope you all have a great break and I hope to see you all around campus, Bennett Gagnon

Dear my fellow Koalas,
Thank you for being a part of this English 101 class this semester. I truly enjoyed this class, my first English class that I actually didn't dread going to. This is because you guys are awesome! We had so many amazing discussions, although we would quite often get off topic, but we would always manage to get back on topic and get the job done. We were an incredibly inclusive class, bringing in all kinds of different viewpoints that I'd never thought of before. These discussions really got me thinking outside the box. I got to see life from many different perspectives other than my own. People consist of their experiences, and sharing these experiences is incredibly important for building friendships in life. I realized that our differences are what make us stronger people. I've also learned that I am more similar to this class than I might have thought. I am not the only Star Trek nerd. I am not the only one who has recently lost a friend to suicide. I am not the only Cross Country runner. Similarities bring people together, but differences keep people together. I've come to realize that researching doesn't have to mean purely through internet searches and scouring through books. Just talking to people to see their point of view can be considered research. For some of my research, in this class and others, I conducted interviews to see others' thoughts and opinions on a variety of topics. I also learned in this class that writing does not have to be formal to be a strong argument. Almost every single blog post that I've written was done informally, and both my unessays were written informally. I found that when I write informally, it is easier for me to connect to my audience, in this case, you guys. Writing is not evil. Writing classes are not fiery burning pits to run away from. Writing is an excellent form of communication that can be done by anybody, anywhere. I used to absolutely loathe any assignment that required more than a paragraph of writing, but that is no longer true. I am no longer afraid. So thank you, thank you. You made a difference, and for that, I am incredibly grateful. Please say hello if you see me on campus, I would love to chat about anything at all. Your friend, Michaela Bruns Dear Class,
Throughout this semester the amount of interclass collaboration and discussion was something very new to me. In High School we never had discussions like this especially where the students ran it instead of the teacher. This new way I found was very beneficial and helped me provoke thoughts I never really considered. It was nice because you get to listen to all sides of argument, or here how certain people relate personally to whatever the topic is. When we had discussions after each of the presentations it was really cool to see what everyone’s sides were on all of these topics that affect us all personally. I also enjoyed all of the blog posts we were able to do and how we were able to read and comment on our fellow classmates posts. Many times I looked at other students blog posts if I was looking for new styles of writing. I would overall say that throughout this semester one of the biggest things that helped turn me into the writer I am today was the class and all the new influences I learned from them. Thank you, Phil Meyers Dear Class,
I am so grateful that I got to be apart of such an amazing class, thank you so much! Honestly in the past I did not enjoy English classes that much, although this semester has changed my view about writing and this class has been one of my favorites this semester! It has been great seeing everyone grow as a writer, and learning about the writing process through my peers. Being able to read everyone’s blogs has exposed me to many different kinds of writing. I loved doing to forum projects, since during this project my peers taught me so much about the research process. Overall everyone in this class has really pushed me to explore my creativity and break away from the classic five paragraph essay. Thank you so much! Mallika Sharabu Dear class,
Thank you. All of you. This has definitely been one of my favorite classes this semester. You were all so friendly and welcoming from day one. I definitely grew a lot as a writer with you guys in this class. I used to be a really rigid writer and I hated it since all I wrote was essays for school. But this class helped me to grow as a writer and taught me how to write more in a more captivating and interesting way. It was also really awesome to see everyone else grow as writers in this class--it let me break out of my "shell" in writing as I grew alongside you guys. I learned a lot from you guys about how to write and present in a more effective way. Your guys' creativity is inspiring. In the past, group projects were also something that I'd always struggled with in classes. However, I can genuinely say that I have thoroughly enjoyed working with and getting to know all of you, especially in groups. Thank you for being an incredible class. Courtney Shih Dear classmates,
Thank you so much. For everything. That’s all. But seriously, this has been my favorite class this semester because of how much personality there is. From the very first day, when we did the name game and everyone kept thinking of wonderfully horrible hints, I have felt welcomed. And I would hope that everyone else has felt the same. I’d like to think that I learned as much during the class discussions and lectures as I did by simply talking to everyone and reading everyone’s blogs. The blogs in particular, although I’m not going to lie, I didn’t read most of them, were amazing. Everyone put themselves out there, which can be very intimidating, and in doing so encouraged me to take a deeper look into what I was writing about. Even some of the first blogs taught me so much. For example, how the informal structure of the writing, things like where the paragraphs were and using parenthesis, could be used to create a unique tone. It was so different from all my academic papers. I’m not really sure if I’ve grown so much this first semester simply because it’s college but I’d like to believe that this class, particularly the people in it, played a major role. Gratefully, Colleen Donahue Dear 1:10 Koala English Class,
I just want to thank all of you for being such an amazing class this semester. Your enthusiasm and ideas have made me look forward to going to class every day. You guys are inspiring, and I hope that we have more classes together in the future! In this class, we did many activities that required us to work to gather, from whole class discussions to forum presentations. This has helped tremendously with my writing and researching, for in these group activities, I was able to get a sense of everybody's different ideas and feedbacks on a given issue. This encouraged me to look at different opinions when writing my unessays. It also made the topics that we discussed in class more relatable to each other, and we were able to listen to everyone's personal experiences and why they related to the topic. It's nice to hear everyone voice their opinion and voice different ideas to the class. It gives me inspiration to write about different things and research additional information for my unessays. Another thing that allowed us to interact were the weekly blog posts. With every blog post, we could comment on each other's work and give them feed back on what was great and what could use improvement. For me, this was especially helpful in figuring out the strengths and weaknesses of my writing, and I thank those who took the time out of their busy day to leave feedback on my post. This allowed me to find areas of my writing that need strength, which gave me the opportunity to work on it on the next assignment. Thank you for pushing me to become a better writer and for giving me advice to help me navigate through the writing process and improve. In conclusion, you guys have been an amazing class and support system in my writing. I wish you guys the best of luck in whatever you decide to pursue here. Thank you all, and GO ZAGS! Sincerely, Miles Gentry Dear Joe Brown,
Thank you so much for the opportunity to possibly join your team of premier writers. For my submission I choose to draw a comic strip and present it along with a written component. It focuses on the issues of the school transfer law and segregation of schools specifically in Missouri. I struggle most with the beginning of the writing process. When brainstorming I come up with many ideas and focusing and connecting them takes time. When writing this submission, over the course of a week I thought of many ideas and read many articles in order to try to focus my topic. I work better when given a strict topic to write about rather than broad assignment that I can write about anything for. I have always loved to draw and paint and I believe that this was the perfect opportunity to represent my artistic side. I was able to illustrate the social implications of the transfer program and how easily the district and state can control the lives of many students. I am very passionate about this topic, and I learned so much about the current day segregation through my research. Although describing the various levels of these issue, segregation and transfer programs, can be difficult through just a comic strip. For this reason I choose to include a written piece where I explained the story of the comic strip more and analyzed it as well. If you are looking for a writer who can incorporate their creative and analytic side I may be the writer you are looking for. Thank You, Mallika Sharabu Dear Mr Brown,
